Community Conversation with Carla Lewis, ECO-Action’s New Executive Director

In October 2021, ECO-Action’s Board of Directors appointed Carla Y. Lewis, as Executive Director to lead ECO-Action into the future. Carla earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Clark Atlanta University. She brings a wealth of transferable knowledge and experience from the nonprofit world of homelessness, consultancy, and administration to ECO-Action that will further its mission and vision.

Ms. Lewis has dedicated more than 20 years of her life serving disadvantaged communities of color. She began her nonprofit career as a case manager providing guidance to at risk youth to prevent gang involvement and teen pregnancy. Ms. Lewis also served as the Managing Director for a grassroots organization committed to educating, healing and helping women to create conditions leading to their own empowerment. She assisted in organizing under-served communities to demand justice, dignity, and liberation for all through transforming lives, laws, and social institutions. She also served as the founding Executive Director of an organization that educated the social service community on how nonprofits could better serve youth and young adults who were homeless. We are looking forward to working with and supporting Carla as she spearheads ECO-Action’s efforts that will continue to promote social and environmental justice in Georgia and the Southeast.
